| I'm in a math intensive program called Math Path 2. It's math path 2 because there are three math paths. Path 1 is for elementary and intermediate algebra, path 2 is trigonometry and pre-calculus, path 3 is calculus 5 A and B. It's so that folks like me who have lots of math and not much else left, can do it faster. The normally semester length classes are chopped in half and attached study skills courses are tacked on so you can still be full time. Trigonometry= 4 units, pre-calc= 5 units, skills for trig= 2 units skills for pre-calc= 2 units. 13 units total, yay I can still get financial aid! It's a really neat concept, except I'm there Monday through Friday doing nothing but math. Which will certainly teach me much math, but may make me a little crazy. Also, I'm still working at the library and am there Saturdays, so I'm at school 6 days a week this semester. I may come to dislike some of the scenery. All in all I'm excited though, a little nervous, but excited. I had homework assigned that's due tomorrow, the first day, which I got through with only a couple of "Oh, what was that again-" hiccups, which were overcome. So I feel reasonably prepared. Still nervous though. I'm probably going to be rather preoccupied over the next 16 weeks, so if my holiday cards are late, or I'm slow to respond to e-mails, phone calls, etc. I'm probably just grappling with something out there in math land, and will hopefully be returning shortly | | |
| So, I like my little car. Generally, it's been rolling along just fine. Today however, it has angered me. I knew it was time for an oil change, I planned on going in Monday/Tuesday. I set a blinking iCal alarm e-mail to remind me, I knew! However, today as I'm getting on the freeway to Sarah's my oil light begins to blink alarmingly. So I pull over, go straight to the mechanic and tell them the situation. They fix it, hooray! It needs a slightly thicker oil, it's older and burns off some oil that a younger engine wouldn't, to prevent the loss, one uses thicker oil. That's good. By the way, your two rear tires are bald on the inside tread, you should replace those, it'll be a little over $100 for us to do the whole thing. ~tears~ Okay, okay. I kinda knew that was coming, but sadness. We'll see to it after I talk to my folks about money and my lack of it. Make that just my dad, mom lost her job two days ago. That also, sucks, in a very real and irritating way. If you're one of the people I've seen lately and failed to discuss it with, it's because discussing it tends to hurl me into fist shaking rants about how awful those people are, and he economy, and republicans, and business, and everything ever grr. And finally, tonight, I get to Sarah's, we go there is yummy food. Return to her house, play some video games. Merriment is had, and I go to leave, and my car won't start because it's brake lights never turned off. Why? I have no idea. So I jumped it, drove extremely carefully home, and then disconnected my battery to avoid (hopefully) a repeat performance on Monday when I take it to the mechanic. Agh. | | |
| This past weekend was awesome. I got to see a lot of really classic sights, hang with K & her boy, who made a good impression I might add. Despite being sleepy and somewhat exasperated, which I thought rather commendable. One of the key differences between SF and LA is sheer prettiness. San Francisco is beautiful. My dad's an architect so I have a somewhat taught and learned by osmosis appreciation for buildings, and this city rocked my socks. Everywhere, beautiful Victorian or Art Deco moulding, gorgeous windows, with these beautiful little motif panes, great coloring, and so much of it build like dominoes, one right next to the other up and down the hills. I loved it. And Chinatown, man alive, eventually I'll give it the two days I want to give it for wondering around. North Beach seems like an excellent place to get coffee. There are lots of neat little cafes and restaurants. I didn't eat there, it's expensive, but a lot looked tasty, or minimum interesting. The Mission District felt like Los Angeles, in the very Hispanic feel, but more murals and less angry, it was homey to me. Twin Peaks was really cold, I loved it. All in all, it was a really excellent adventure and one I'm liable to repeat with many variations. Best part though was definitely the company, and the Clement St. area. It was a lot like Claremont to me, full of neat little places, and you feel like even if you see them all, you'll go back. Many thanks to my kind hosts, I am looking forward to visiting again. | | |
| But I'm going to San Francisco, this weekend. Going to see my half sister, and wonder around, have a little adventure. It should be fun, I'm excited. Suggestions are welcome as to awesome stuff in the area. Hope all is well, and that's all for now. | | |
| Time, it flies. So I'm officially a supervisor on Monday, hooray! More money, slightly more responsibility and the added bonus of a friend being hired. He is now technically my underling, this amuses me. Library classes went very very well. The finals are next Monday and Tuesday, and I'm not worried about them. Math madness is all set, registered, and paid for. So I'll be hard to reach and spend time with. They say plan on 20-30 hours of homework/study time a week, and I'll be working 15-20 hours a week, and in class a fair amount. So yes, busy-ness will be me. Oh, my car had a problem. The emissions control valve died and had to be replaced. That was sad. But I got it replaced and ta-da. Or so I thought. This week the light came on again, and I was mortified. I had just spent a few hundred dollars replacing something in that system. But it was just a hose that had gotten clogged with carbon ick while the valve wasn't functioning. Some tweaking fussing and solvent, and a less than a hundred dollars later, happy car. Phew Ideally of course it wouldn't have any of the above happen, but as it is 20+ years old, it's not odd, and hasn't been that bad. Hope everyone is doing well.
